DN2 MOD PATCHER
Builds the Digitone II mod firmware here, in this page, from your own copies of three Elektron OS files. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. ← DN2 Sample Import
1 · Version
Each version here was cleared by the project's ship gate. The page builds it, then checks the result is byte for byte that cleared file (its sha256) before it lets you save it.
2 · Your stock files
The Digitone II file must be stock OS 1.11, even if your instrument runs a later OS: the mod is built on 1.11, and the page stops if it is given any other version. All of them are free downloads from Elektron's support pages for each instrument. Drop them on their boxes, or choose them. This browser remembers them for next time (they stay on this device; nothing is uploaded). Forget my files
3 · Build
4 · Flash
If your Digitone II runs OS 1.12 or later, flashing the mod takes it back to a 1.11-based OS: projects and sounds saved under the newer OS may not open on it. Back them up first, and keep the newer OS file to go back to.
Back up the +Drive and your projects first (Elektron Transfer). Then send the saved file as any Digitone II OS update: drag it onto Elektron Transfer with the instrument running and connected by USB. The stock OS 1.11 file, sent the same way, puts it back. If an update ever fails to start, the recovery route is the Early Start-up Menu (hold [FUNC] while powering on, then [TRIG 4]), receiving the stock file over a DIN MIDI cable (not USB) from Transfer's SysEx window.
Each version's notes, tests and known issues are in the project's FIRMWARE.md. What to know before and after flashing: Read me, below.

The mod adds machines and features the DN2's manual doesn't cover. Where to find them, what to watch out for, and what isn't there yet.
What's in it
- Machinedrum: every MD machine except the sample-based E-12s, as one machine, Perc. Its TYPE control picks the machine (all 33) and can be p-locked, so each step of a Perc track can be a different MD machine. Each machine has a second page the MD doesn't have: Octatrack-style EQ, amplitude modulation and a B/W filter.
- Monomachine: SID 6581, DPRO Wave, DPRO Ddrw, DPRO Dens and VO-6.
- Digitakt II: all its machines, Slice included. Samples live in a 400 MB pool in RAM (not on the +Drive yet), sent with the sample import tool. You can also record external audio and resample.
- OS 1.11 only (not 1.12), so no Outbox yet.
Where things are
- New machines: MACHINE SEL ([FUNC] + [SYN]), after Swarmer: Perc (the Machinedrum's machines), the Digitakt II sample machines (Oneshot, Werp, Stretch, Repitch, Grid, Slice) and, from v0.27, the Monomachine's SID 6581, DPRO Wave, DPRO Ddrw, DPRO Dens, VO-6.
- Perc: page 2's TYPE picks the machine (TRX, EFM, GND, P-I). It can be p-locked per step.
- Sample recorder: FUNC + VOICE. After a recording: TRIM (E/H move the ends, FUNC + YES plays it), FILE NAME (hold FUNC for the character grid; FUNC + PLAY clears the name), then ASSIGN: press a [TRIG] key to load it on that track.
- Sample list: turn SAMP. In the list, FUNC + YES opens the +Drive browser (folders; RIGHT on a sample: load, rename, delete).
- Slices: on a Slice track's page press YES (edit slice points, create a slice grid, linear/random locks). In the editor: LEFT/RIGHT pick a slice, FUNC + RIGHT splits it, FUNC + LEFT removes it, FUNC + YES plays it, E/H/D move start/end/loop, FUNC + G moves it whole, YES or NO closes. On a Grid track YES gives ALLOCATE SLICE.
- Slices on the keyboard: KEYBOARD mode on a Slice or Grid track with SLCE at NOTE plays the slices in order.
- PING: in the FILTER type list.
- Your own samples: send them with DN2 Sample Import. They load from the +Drive at every power-on.
Watch out for
- Stock OS 1.11 only. On OS 1.12 or later, flashing takes you back to a 1.11-based OS (see Flash).
- Back up the +Drive and your projects before every flash. Keep the stock 1.11 file and a DIN MIDI cable for recovery.
- DSP time. The Machinedrum and Monomachine machines are heavy. Several of them sounding at once, with p-locks, can use more DSP time than a frame has. From v0.27, a voice that won't fit is silent for that moment, a short gap on that track. Before v0.27 the audio could stop until a reboot.
- Monomachine voices are mono and never go quiet on their own (as on the Monomachine): shape them with the AMP envelope.
- Monomachine tracks: set VOICE SETUP to lock 1 voice. With dynamic voice allocation (the default), most notes on a Monomachine track don't sound, and a voice it used can be heard on another track. Being fixed.
- Picking a sample right after clearing a Slice track can freeze the sample list (a reboot clears it). Being looked at.
- The sample pool loads at every power-on, so a large pool takes a while. +Drive storage is planned.
- Slice and Grid: the playing-slice marker lags behind what you hear.
- From v0.28, SHIFT and GRAN are gone from the filters. Sounds that used them load with Multi-Mode.
- The recorder may not hear its input until SRC is switched away and back once (being looked at).
Not there yet / coming
- Multi-select in the sample browser (mark samples or whole folders, delete them together): v0.29.
- Samples on the +Drive (its free ~19 GB), Digitakt II Sounds (sample presets), zero-crossing snap in the slice editor.
- Monomachine: DPRO-BBOX (doesn't fit), DENS's chorus.
- Work on the DSP load: how many heavy voices can run at once.
- A build on OS 1.12 (Outbox): not planned yet.
